The following information is an analysis made by our Risk Manager of the insurance benefits and is not part of the insurance company's policy.  It is simply provided to the members and potential members to help clarify the policy.  If you have any questions, call us!

Q: Who is Insured?

A: The National Horsemen's Association, Inc. and its member clubs. Our Charter allows membership to any approved club organized for profit or non-profit that is involved in equine and rodeo related activities.

Q: Does the National Horsemen's Association write the insurance coverage?

A: No. The National Horsemen's Association and its member clubs are the insureds (person receiving insurance coverage). We do not write or sell insurance. We buy an insurance policy from a reliable carrier which covers our association and our member clubs’ activities.

Q: What is the basic coverage?

A: Commercial General Liability. This, essentially, is protection against financial loss suffered by the insured from suits arising from the public in accordance with the insurance contract.

Q: Are association members issued an individual spectator liability policy from the insurance carrier.

A: No. All NHA members are issued a certificate of liability insurance from one of our association’s master policies.

Q: What are the National Horsemen's Association master policy limits?

A: $1,000,000 occurrence / $1,000,000 annual association shared aggregate "Combined Single Limit" for Bodily Injury and Property Damage.

Q: If we should require higher insurance limits than the present policy carries, can this be secured?

A: Not through the National Horsemen's Association. Our charter provides every member club with equal benefits. Each club receives no more or no less coverage than any other club. However, we will try to refer your club to an insurance agency in your area.

Q: When are the insurance benefits applicable?

A: During Organized Horse Club Activities.  Your benefits of coverage extend to your Horse Club events that are sponsored, organized, and supervised by your club. The events must be scheduled with the National Horsemen's Association.

Q: Our Club, together with a number of other clubs, is a member of a parent Association. This Association is already a member of the National Horsemen's Association. Are we automatically covered under their benefits?

A: No. Each club sponsoring, organizing, or supervising their own activities must secure their own membership insurance benefits.

Q: Since the Association Liability Program does not have Participant Coverage, how can our club become protected?

A: Built into our application for membership is a participant "Hold Harmless" compliance agreement which must be signed by two of your club's officers. This agreement requires every member participant, non-member participant and volunteers in all club sponsored activities to sign a Participant Release Agreement. (Participating minors must have a parent or legal guardian sign for them).

Q: Where can we obtain "Hold Harmless" Forms?

A: The Association has a Sample Participant Release Agreement available on this web site. Most clubs have a statement printed at the bottom of their entry forms that is acceptable, but our Association strongly recommends that every club seek out an attorney to specifically tailor an agreement to meet their club needs.

Q: If our club leases or allows another club to use our facility does our insurance cover them?

A: No. Have the guest club provide its own insurance and name your club as an Additional Named Insured.

Q: If our club uses another club's grounds are we covered?

A: Yes.

Q: If necessary can our club secure an Additional Named Insured endorsement?

A: Yes. Request it from our office at least five (5) business days prior to need. There is a charge of $50.00 for each additional named certificate under the our program payable at the time of request.

Q: Who is an Additional Insured and what will the Additional Named Insured Endorsement Cover?

A: An Additional Insured is an entity separate from the National Horsemen's Association member group, such as an arena or production company, that is involved in a particular event with the member group. Each Additional Insured must be named separately on individual certificates. They are only protected against claims made by spectators and or the public that results as a direct liability of the member group. Each additional Insured must have their own Primary Liability Insurance in place. The National Horsemen's Association Liability Program will NOT cover claims made by spectators and/or the public that results as a direct liability of an Additional Insured's actions, facility or grounds.

Q: Is it necessary for us to request an additional named insured certificate each year after having once requested the same the previous year.

A: Yes.

Q: What should we do in case of an accident?

A: Do Not Admit Responsibility For Any Accident! Be sure that any injured party receives immediate medical attention. Notify the National Horsemen's Association within 48 hours of the accident. Do not consider whether the club is liable or not. We will send you an accident report to be completed and returned as soon as possible.

Q: Do our insurance benefits provide workers compensation coverage?

A: No.

Q: Do our insurance benefits provide or include health insurance?

A: No. The insurance benefit is strictly a Liability Coverage.

Q: Will our club ever need to contact the Insurance Carrier directly to make changes?

A: No. Correspondence with the insurance carrier must be directed through the National Horsemen's Association, Inc. The insurance carrier maintains a correspondence file only with our Association's corporate office.
